COMMUNITY SING HONORING DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.

Join Penn Center National Historic Landmark District for Community Sing.   This traditional program promotes and preserves the spirituals that were traditionally intoned in the Sea Islands of South Carolina performed by local church choirs in Beaufort County.

On January 15, 2017, Penn Center is honoring our shared legacy with Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Southern Christian Leadership Council (SCLC).  You are invited to attend the Community Sing at 5:30 p.m. and tour the Gantt Cottage 3:00-4:30 p.m. on the historic grounds of Penn Center, the place where Dr. King sought refuge and held SCLC Staff retreats to plan the forward progression of the 1960’s Civil Rights Movement.  The Gantt Cottage offers a pictorial exhibit ofDr. King and SCLC staff during their retreats atPenn Center.
