A presentation by librarians of the "Finding Their Names: Description and Discovery of Enslavement Events" project at the University of Georgia Special Collections Library. Includes viewing of archival materials from the 19th century. Relevant to historians, genealogists, and researchers of Black experiences in bondage and freedom.

CAMP PENN 2025

CAMP PENN SCHOLARS (ages 5-12) & The TEEN TEXTILE CAMP (ages 13-18) are one-week programs  to enrich skills and interest in education. CAMP PENN strengthens children’s reading and writing skills through fun, culturally responsive activities, facilitated by National Board Certified teachers and Community Advocates. CAMP PENN SCHOLARS  participants build reading comprehension, expand vocabulary, and develop effective writing strategies in a supportive and inclusive environment. They’ll also explore a wide range of diverse books that reflect various cultures and experiences, helping them confidently express their own ideas.  The TEEN TEXTILE CAMP  is an intensive, creative camp for teens learning  West African textile techniques with Monique de La Tour using three unique and original textile designs.   CAMP PENN SCHOLARS  (ages 5-12) & TEEN TEXTILE CAMP (ages 13-18) will be held from July 28 to August 1, 2025, and includes breakfast, lunch, and a snack each day. APPLICATIONS close on JUNE 27, 2025.

This meeting will be the first introductory meeting for anyone looking to volunteer. Please spread this to the community as well. If anyone thinks they may want to join or volunteer, please have them come out.
