Celebrate Black History Month at Penn Center on February 21

Penn Center invites the community to gather on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM for its 2nd Annual Black History Month Celebration. This free, family friendly outdoor event will take place on the historic Penn Center campus on St. Helena Island.

Hosted by Penn Center Inc. in collaboration with the St. Helena and Lady’s Island Legacy Keepers, the celebration honors Black history while uplifting the living culture and traditions that continue to shape the Sea Islands today.

Featured Performer: B.I.Z.O (Gullah Child)

This year’s entertainment lineup includes B.I.Z.O, also known as Gullah Child, a St. Helena Island native whose name represents Beneficent, Indomitable, Zealous, and Opulent.

B.I.Z.O, discovered his passion for music early and later co founded Dirty Island Boyz in 1993. His work spans hip hop, techno, and pop, and he has contributed to soundtracks, commercials, and collaborations with numerous DJs and producers across the Southeast.

His performance brings a powerful local voice to the celebration and reflects the deep musical roots of the Gullah Geechee community.

Vendors are welcome to participate. Those interested in vendor opportunities can contact Claretha Singleton at 843-812-3148 for more information. In case of inclement weather, the program will be rescheduled or canceled.

At Penn Center, we remain committed to being a place where history is remembered, culture is celebrated, and future generations are inspired. We look forward to celebrating Black History Month with you and continuing the work that has defined this campus for generations.
